BASS LAKE AREA - MADERA COUNTY

GOAT MOUNTAIN TRAIL

The Goat Mountain Trail starts right from the Forks Campground on the west side of Bass Lake. The trail is well maintained, but does have some rock steps and blow down that will require you to occasionally dismount.

After about 3 miles of continuous climbing, you will reach a junction with another trail that decends down to another campground at Bass Lake. Continue on up on the Goat Mtn Trail for another mile where you will reach a dirt road. Turn left and follow this road for about a mile and half until it reaches the summit of Goat Mountain.

After enjoying the views, head back the way you came until you reach the Goat Mtn Trail again. Descend for one mile until you reach the trail intersection. At this point you can turn right and head down the other trail to form a loop. In about three miles the trail will reach Bass Lake. From this point it's about another mile (to the left) to the Forks Campground.

This trail can be done as a loop either way. The Goat Mtn Trail is a little more technical, so the other trail may be better to climb.

For more information contact the Oakhurst Cycling Center @ 209-642-4606.

HOW TO GET THERE
From Fresno, take Highway 41 North past Oakhurst to the Bass Lake turnoff. Turn right at The Forks turnoff and follow the road to the campground.
